PVC has hardly been used in the 3D printing world due to its complex chemical behaviour. BLOOM Robotics developed the first robotic 3D printer for PVC to print large-size industrial products. It can directly print from standard PVC pellets, with print lines of 5mm wide and layers of 2mm high. A ‘proof of concept prototype’ has been validated in a laboratory environment. Large size 3D printing with PVC offers a wide range of new possibilities for PVC: from small batch production of specials, fast product development and prototyping of large objects, to complex geometry designs.
