Reuse = Waste Reduce: sustainable urban agriculture with reuse of PVC

10/16

aarhusschool

The project by the Aarhus School of Architecture increases the lifespan of such typical PVC applications as pipes, gutters, cables, roofing sheets prior to recycling by incorporating them in urban agriculture. The sorted PVC waste materials are turned into Growing Hydroponic Units producing food as an intensive farm, using collected rainwater and electricity produced by PV-cells powering LED grow lights. Examples include those in Cuba, India, Japan, UK, USA and Denmark.
